Undeserved Restoration…brings forth gladness in God

Psalm 126 is a true and blessed word.  We often find ourselves in need of restoration, having sinned…revered our thoughts as higher than God’s thoughts…disregarded His word and taken the path of man’s wisdom.  Yet, ‘the LORD has done great things for us; we are glad’.  His goodness to those He loves and disciplines is abundant and compassionate.

Ps 126:1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us;
we are glad.

Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like streams in the Negeb!
Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.

Along with this psalm came an old hymn I haven’t heard or sung in years…but it too is a sweet exclamation,

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Refrain

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,

Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Refrain

Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

It takes my eyes from where I’ve been to where He calls me…sends me.  Go and make disciples.

Sorrowing, yet rejoicing!
