A right response… the created to the Creator

In my slow but steady chronological reading which started last January, I have been reading through 1 Chronicles which has sometimes seemed laborious; lots of names, numbers, positions…  But as I finished in chapter 29 I found some interesting and wonderful verses to think on today…
Who then will offer willingly, consecrating himself today to the Lord?” (1 Chr 29:5b)
Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly. (1 Chr 29:9)
“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you. (1 Chr 29:14)
O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you. (1 Chr 29:18)
These thoughts then brought this passage in Romans to mind…

As regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.  For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.  For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy.  For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.  Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

“For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”
“Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?”

For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.  (Romans 11:28-36)

  1. That’s awesome – and what do we have that we did not receive?
