Overdose

Many people I interact with on a regular basis seem to shy away from serious consideration and discussion on our economy and where we are headed; this strikes me as very unfortunate.  They will quickly acknowledge and even complain about how much everything costs and about how high our taxes are… but it seems that most of us still have our hands out everytime the government creates another entitlement program or initiates another “stimulus” endeavor.

Isn’t our personal response to the current economic crisis a reflection of our faith… a  reflection of what our treasure/pleasure is fixed on… a reflection of our hearts?

I’m posting this video, Overdose – The Next Financial Crisis, so that maybe it will offer some provocation to you to think and take some appropriate action in a very practical and prudent manner.  I’ve never been a financially wary or informed person.  I’ve always been a spender… and now I am becoming a spender who is learning to spend wisely, and one who is portioning some of my time and resources to get wisdom and pursue some prudent ways to be prepared to provide and protect my family in the days ahead.

On this day, May 21st, a day which sadly has become notorious due to the misgivings of Harold Camping and his false teaching about what the Bible says, it is still a wonderful day to stop and take ‘stock’ of what God has said in His Word and then rightly and wisely live as an example before men in all our conduct… which includes taking our financial responsibilities and submitting them to Jesus Christ as well.

Are we living within the means our employment and abilities provide without borrowing from the future?

If we lose our job or ability to work as we’ve been accustomed, will our personal debt prevent us from fulfilling our responsibility to protect and provide for our families?

Have we adopted a worldly practice of greed and gain at the wrongful cost to others?  Are we liars and thieves, both practically and religiously?

Has our current affluence, at lease here in America, purchased our silence.. our conscience… our holiness?

Moving away from the philosophical and rhetorical and more into current headlines… consider what the government is looking to do with 401k plans.  They are moving to lock up 401k plans with the only obvious assumption  that they know better than you how to handle your/my money.  This is pathetically absurd… but that is today’s news.  And why wouldn’t they? …we have stood in line for all their plans, programs and handoutsHaven’t they ‘earned’ the right/role to play ‘god’ with our monies and subsequently and progressively, with our lives?  They realize what many are coming to realize… that those who have poured money into 401k plans for many years now are looking at our economy and the huge debt we have and are accruing and they are adding 2 + 2 and seeing that their answer of 4 is looking and sounding very different than the answer they are hearing in the news from our government, the Federal Reserve and Wall Street.  Of course they are moving to lock up the 401k’s to prevent the level of access that has previously been afforded to those who through hardship or pure choice have determined to take their monies out of 401k plans at a near 30% expense; they can’t afford to do anything less.

Consider the  recent revolts in places around the world and take a serious look at what is really motivating people (like you and me) to put their physical lives/well-being on the line in revolt against corrupt governance.  Men and women are stepping into harms way to revolt… they have come to a place where they feel there is no other choice.  Consider Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen among others.  The handouts are gone and people are facing grim realities and a hopeless future.  Why should I think that my corrupt government will treat me any better than those who have long since stopped pretending to care about their citizenry?

When the intense pain of hopelessness cannot be numbed or ignored, people will act out.  They will look for a way out… they will look towards someone…anyone… who will offer some hope.

Am I, are you… prepared and living in such a way as to be a credible voice of true Hope to our world?  Will my affection for Jesus Christ and my love for Him and for those He came to save resound loudly with Hope and Truth concerning the salvation He has brought to us through the Cross?  I hope so.

I am a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I live in America and I love this historical land of the free and home of the brave.  I no longer believe that our country’s leadership has our Constitution as its ruling document and it certainly is no longer a nation that honors the Triune God.  Still, I remain a patriot of this once great nation, blessed and remaining under the Sovereignty of Almighty God, according to His plan and purpose.  As a citizen and patriot, I write this blog with hopes of stirring you up to think… to get Wisdom and to look to God through Jesus Christ, His Son who came and lived among us as the perfect God-man and then died and rose again to set us free from the guilt and just penalty of our sin and to the wonderful love and hope and life that is found through repentence and faith in the grace of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 4:4-7  “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.
Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.

Blessings
