Does the anomaly of America and its Constitutional Republic matter in a Biblical worldview?

226 years ago yesterday… America became a Constitutional Republic. Does this matter? Does this change or impact a biblical responsiveness from Christians who live as American citizens? How should believers in America be involved in holding on to a Constitutional Republic?

Maybe this blog will be of use to you as you think through these things…

Remembering the Birth of Our Constitutional Republic by Trey Mays
Trey Mays is the CEO and Publisher of The Truth Dispatch, and a Christian conservative political commentator.

The birth of our former Constitutional Republic was 226 years ago today. Once these United States of America won our independence, we began the process of writing a Constitution for our new nation. At the end of the Constitutional Convention that wrote the original Constitution that we have today, a woman asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got – a Republic or a Monarchy?” Franklin then said, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” Well we lost our Constitutional Republic decades ago to an out of control federal bureaucracy and judicial activism.

Today, 226 years after we became a Constitutional Republic, we remember the original Constitution and the form of government and society our Founding Fathers built for future American generations to enjoy. However, remembering the Constitutional Republicanism that was intended to protect and defend the natural and unalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness that we declared our independence over is no longer enough. America is at a crossroads.

Either we can continue going down the path of destruction to eventual collapse like the empires of the past, or the American people can stand up for Life, Liberty, and Property. Restoring Constitutional Republicanism is the only sure path to renewing our belief in the unalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Only if we the people remain tireless and irate can we rebuild the American Republic that the Framers originally constructed for us.

We must first educate ourselves in our nation’s history and in the timeless principles that our great country was built. We must learn from the mistakes of past societies, and learn from where we strayed. Educating the next generation and ourselves is important, so that we know how to return to the first principles and build an America worthy of our Founding Fathers. Learning about the original meaning of our Constitution will also give us the Constitutional pathway for restoring America’s first principles.

Staying informed and active citizens on the current actions of our federal government will allow us to better confront the stupidity of those in power. The best way we, as informed citizens, can discern the actions of our government is continuously read the original Constitution and to ask ourselves if the government actions are a federal responsibility. Politicians cannot continue to lie to a better-informed citizenry. We can better use our knowledge of what the federal government is doing to hold the leaders we elect to represent us accountable to the nation’s first principles.

Let us make the year of 2013 be the year that we march our country back to being the Constitutional Republic the Framers intended. We must never forget the first principles that build our American Republic. It will take the American people to remain tireless and irate if we are going to restore Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness in our exceptional republic. It is time that we alter and abolish the nanny state the Progressives have built, and replace it with the Constitutional Republic our Founding Fathers originally built.

Daily reminders

“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13-14

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Matthew 6:22-23

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

“If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” I John 1:6

“for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8

The battle for the mind still rages. Hold fast to the Truth. “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” Jn17:17

Today’s daily reminder is to let what I know about God inform how I think about the world and to not let what I think about the world or anything else inform how I think about God, apart from what He has said about himself. All of God’s word is inspired and sufficient for me to live a godly life. Remember to consider who Jesus Christ is and who I am in Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth and the life.

Mark your calendars… Sept 17th! FIREWORKS Pt 2

We all gather for barbecues, baseball, shopping, and fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July, Independence Day.  Independence Day is the birthday of the United States of America becoming an independent and sovereign nation.  Constitution Day is the celebration of the birth of our Constitutional Republican system of government and the ratification of the United States Constitution.  In parks and backyards across America, let us begin joining with our friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate the birth of our Constitutional Republic.

We celebrate the day of our independence as a nation.  Let us come together in remembrance and celebration of the 17th of September, Constitution Day.  However, we must do more than just eat and hang out.  We must learn and educate ourselves on what Constitution Day is really about, and to remind ourselves how fortunate we all are to be Americans.  The United States Constitution is the framework and the law that has made American Exceptionalism succeed for 226 years.

In 1776, the Founding Fathers didn’t sign the Declaration of Independence and fight a revolutionary war for the next generations to celebrate July 4th by shopping and eating; never knowing exactly what they were celebrating.  The Founders understood that a general education was essential to a flourishing civil society; therefore, they understood that Americans needed to be educated and informed if the liberty they fought so hard for were to survive the test of time.  As Thomas Jefferson said, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.”  However, being educated and informed on our Independence from England is necessary, but what about educating and informing our friends, family, neighbors, and fellow Americans about the document that created our Constitutional Republic – The United States Constitution?

As Americans, we need to reconnect with our heritage of faith and freedom, channel the wisdom of the Founding Fathers, and rediscover the meaning behind our country’s formation.  We need to do it every year.  The point of observing Constitution Day, the 17th of September, is to help us remember how this country was formed, and to help us convey that American history to the next generation.

In twelve days, the 17thof September will be an historic day if we Americans are serious about celebrating the formation of our Constitutional Republic.  The Truth Dispatch has organized a Facebook group in an attempt to excite and ignite a movement of Americans to organize their own Constitution Day celebration parties in parks and backyards all across the United States of America.  Will you join with us in educating, informing, and celebrating the birth our Constitutional Republic and the ratification of the United States Constitution?

What are you doing for this year’s Constitution Day, the 17th of September?

Meekness and Compassion – the Lion and the Lamb

The Lion and the Lamb – devotional by John Piper

“When a reed is bent and about to break, the Servant will tenderly hold it upright until it heals. When a wick is smoldering and has scarcely any heat left, the Servant will not pinch it off, but cup his hand and blow gently until it burns again.”

I’m reminded in this devotional of the power of Christ’s meekness and compassion, to overrule the deft thievery of sin and the devil, bent on stealing, killing and destroying my joy in Jesus Christ, my Treasure.

God is good. Glory to God.

A Retreat with Galatians 5:1

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

My spirit was uplifted by God’s Word in Gal 5:1 again this morning.  God is so good to speak His word to us wherever we are and He does so perfectly.

Glory to God.

If you need to retreat, maybe this is a good Word for you to retreat with too?

Blog sites with good content

There are many blogs out there with good content.  I offer one site referral that almost can’t miss… quotes from J. C. Ryle.

5 Essential Doctrines to Believe In

1. The Absolute Supremacy of Holy Scripture

Show us anything, plainly written, in that Book, we will receive it, believe it, and submit to it. Show us anything contrary to that Book, and however sophisticated, plausible, beautiful and apparently desirable, we will not have it at any price.

2. The Doctrine of Human Sinfulness and Corruption

Man is radically diseased. I believe that ignorance of the extent of the Fall, and of the whole doctrine of original sin, is one grand reason why many can neither understand, appreciate, nor receive Evangelical Religion.

3. The Work and Office of our Lord Jesus Christ

The eternal Son of God is our Representative and Substitute. We maintain that people ought to be continually warned not to make a Christ of the Church. We hold that nothing whatever is needed between the soul of man the sinner, and Christ the Savior, but simple child-like faith.

4. The Inward Work of the Holy Spirit

We maintain that the things which need most to be pressed on men’s attention are those mighty works of the Holy Spirit–inward repentance, faith, hope, hatred of sin, and love to God’s law. We say that to tell men to take comfort in their baptism or church membership when these all-important graces are unknown, is not merely a mistake, but positive cruelty.

5. The Visible Work of the Holy Spirit in a Person

We maintain that to tell a man he is “born of God” or regenerated, while living in carelessness or sin, is a dangerous delusion. It is the position we assign to these five points which is one of the grand characteristics of Evangelical theology. We say boldly that they are first, foremost, chief and principal things in Christianity.
