Some favorite Truths…
1 Pet 4:12 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.
Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
1 Thes 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.Jer 9:23-24 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
Prov 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

they say You don’t exist, God?
Go…stand at your window, climb to the mountaintop or spelunk into the deepest darkest cave. “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things … Continue reading
Psalm 114: 7-8
“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.” (Psalm 114) Amen.
What is it we ‘sheep’ do?
As I read on this 23rd day of May, the 23rd Psalm, the question I responded with is ‘so then, what do I (the sheep) do? I love the first declaration David makes…”The LORD is my shepherd”. David, the young … Continue reading
Adam first, and us too…Sin
“The devil made me do it!” That excuse rings clearly enough in our minds to use it as a springboard here. More recently, a supply of authors have used the imagery of spiritual warfare to influence our understanding and response to … Continue reading
blogging vs journaling…that is my question?
I’ve indicated previously that this whole blogging thing seemed to me a good vehicle for writing out the thoughts going about in my head. But I do often find myself wondering if there is also a precious benefit to private … Continue reading
conversing on ‘Revival’
A visit to the Desiring God web site(see link in Blogroll) the other day took my thoughts off to consider several layers of response I have to the word ‘Revival’. John Piper quotes from his book ‘A Godward Life’ (p.111) “Revival is … Continue reading
blood-guilty or blood-earnest
Go back to an old blog with me for a moment… https://timwitten.wordpress.com/2008/04/03/whose-light-do-you-carry-whose-words-do-you-speak/ Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Isaiah 50:10 Who is on the Lord’s side? The hymn-writer echoes the call of Scripture…”Who?” Will you … Continue reading
ouch!…you stepped on my song
There is no doubt that part of the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2) the apostle Paul writes about will affect and challenge things we enjoy, have enjoyed, and things we hold dear. Some of those things are just fond memories and … Continue reading
The Great Commission
We know it as ‘the Great Commission’…the final words at the end of Matthew’s gospel of Jesus to the eleven disciples gathered on the mountain in/near Galilee. The scholars/translators didn’t give Matthew 28:16-20 the sub-heading ‘the Great Command’. It wasn’t referred … Continue reading
familiarity breeds contempt?
I don’t know why such a phrase as ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ is so accessible in my mind. It’s not a phrase I think I’ve ever used in conversation nor do I recall ever having given it a run through my … Continue reading
